Dragnet opening line! This house, which was part of the Palm Springs Modernism Week 2014 Signature Home Tour in February, was built by Jack Webb, most famous for his role as Sargent Joe Friday in the 1950s radio show and the 1960s television series.
I liked the tilty address mailbox, who would know it was the Dragnet House?
And, I knew by the porch light that this home would be special indeed.
This shot is facing the front door, with the entry sectioned off by a nice slatted room divider. How about that dining room fixture?
Love it! I wonder if it is original or remodel? The home was recently redecorated by Christopher Kennedy who worked towards maintaining the feel of the era, without having it be a time capsule.
Off to the left is the living room. My mom owned a similar end table with a square glass top. I put a 7-Up down especially hard on the glass top and shattered it. Boo. Children. The interior of her table was not painted grey.
Check out this beautiful lava rock fireplace mantle along the length of the room. And the carpet. And the painting. LOVE IT! All of it.
Interestingly enough, the master is utterly art deco. Let's take a quick peek...shall we?
Me and mom. :) The bathroom and bedroom were so crazily art deco that the architect decided to just embrace it.
Awesome, right?
Let's check out the backyard. Martini anyone? The house is built in a u around this pool. **sigh**
And the kitchen. Supposedly Jack Webb bought the property next door, after divorcing Julie London, to stay close to his daughters.
Cool right? They were running a little Dragnet on the flat screens.
As usual I am obsessed with the floor. I think cork.
Cool mirror backed bar.
I love to get in a good picture of picturesque decorative fruit. Important in every home staging.
A couple of other bedrooms were completely unimproved from the sixties. The brochure and the tour guides said they were for the household staff. Alright.
Great for guests!
Another guest room.
Bathroom unimproved since the sixties. The shower in our bathroom used to have the walls.
One last look at the living room before we head out.
Love? Love.

It's so cool that you got to see this house in person. I did a post about it a couple of years ago, but I didn't have nearly as many cool photos. I see they've taken the framed picture of Jack Webb off the black chest.
ReplyDeleteDana, thanks for sharing! It is nice to see our posts intersect!
DeleteI appreciate that it's not a time capsule, except the raised basin sinks in the master bath (not working there). The spacious feel, stone areas vs. clean use of wood is perfect. The pool area good, but not as welcoming as that sectional, for martinis...that living room is hot. I mean well-curated...swanky!
