Have the gods been holding out on me? Why do I have to read Sunset magazine to figure out this little corner of heaven is in my own backyard?

I decided to get over my initial outrage at being out of the loop (again), and figured Labor Day was the perfect blistering hot weekend to check the shop out. I had the store to myself. No air. But I like to rough it.
I was immediately greeted with a nice set of kitchenettes, lined up down the center of the store.
And, it's the gorgeous twins, Orange 1 and Orange 2.
It took me a few rounds through the store to even absorb what was going on. Out of Vogue bills themselves as a "department store" of retro. That doesn't totally do it justice. But, let's just say there was a little bit of everything. And something for everyone.
High brow.
Low brow.
Vintage clothing -- Halloween is just around the corner. I kinda hate all creepy mannequins although I know this particular one doesn't mean any harm in her classy light green getup.
And vintage jewelry.
I spy a Broyhill Sculptra nightstand.
With my little eye, I spy mid-century modern GLASS. Yum.
And pottery.
And vacuums! And teak fruit-stands (I think)?
I love this room divider. Sculptra as well! It is two-sided (looks good coming and going) and is priced great.
You can't see the pattern, but this corner table has its original boomerang Formica. I just saw this pattern last weekend, and now I see it again. What are the odds?
Panoramic view. See the George Nelson Bubble Lamps up top?
And various fixtures on the wall?
Look at this pretty little lady.
If you can't find something vintage to purchase at Out of Vogue, no matter what your budget, I gotta say, you just weren't in the mood. Speaking of which ... I'll show my treasure tomorrow. We all know I can never resist.
Can you guess?

Rebecca's 5 Point Rating Scale (1-not-so-great and 5-fabulous):
- Store Size / Inventory - 5 (Packed to the rafters and front to back. Plenty of awesome retro stuff to ponder. And LOTS of funky retro clothes.)
- Merchandise Quality - 5 (If you are looking for high end, named pieces, Out of Vogue has a decent sampling. If you are looking for funky retro, they have these items as well.)
- Organization - 5 (Perfectly organized. Like is grouped with like. Once you circle two or three times, you get an easy feel for the organization methodology.)
- Pricing - 5 (Great pricing! I thought the merchandise was priced extremely fairly.)
- Service - 5 (Friendly shop keeper eager to help and extremely knowledgeable about the merchandise.)

I think this store advertises in Atomic Ranch (if you don't subscribe to that, you must!). We found several fun venues to visit when we lived in SoCal. Can't wait to see what you bought. I'm loving some of that blue glass - and the Electrolux vacuums!
ReplyDeleteI do get Atomic Ranch. Such a cool pub. I will go check and see what other So. Cal. stores I am missing out. I shall visit every single one! Promise!
DeleteGreat find! I love this store. Must visit.
ReplyDeleteI know, right? I had to read Sunset to figure out what I had in my own backyard. Amazing.
DeleteWhat fun! Love the glass and those gorgeous teak fruit bowls. I could use a little teak in my life. So could my fruit! :-)
ReplyDeleteIsn't it fun?! I was so delighted that my relatively quick drive paid off in such a big way. Alas, it is not always the case. My fruit could use a little teak in its life too.
DeleteOoohh, looks like a fantastic shop with something for everyone. I have a new found love of rummaging through vintage clothes lately, as I always just used to go for furniture and wares. Looking forward to seeing your purchases!
ReplyDeleteI took a peek at the clothes myself and was very intrigued. Honestly, they brought back a lot of memories too. My mom always looked (and looks) sharp and I saw many things that she would have worn back in the day.
DeleteIn this case, I wish I was closer than a day-long drive there...I have a feeling my living room could benefit from a few weekly visits there! My parents had something like that last pic (credenza?), and a few other things. Nice rating system, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks! Day long drive, I'll have to look you up. :)
DeleteI feel your pain. Fullerton snugged up against the foothills--not a fun place to be during a heat wave.
ReplyDeleteSuper hot. We shuffled around sweating.
