I have been saving this post for the end of the week. One of the most pleasantly surprising events of my time at Palm Springs Modernism Week 2013 was the Marrakesh Designer Showcase. More about that next week (no I can't stop).
Let's talk about this wallpaper, shall we?

#psmw palm springs modernism week: the hedge tour
Posted in:
palm springs modernism week
Back again. I know you are wondering, "Seven posts. When. Will. It. End." It ends when I run out of stuff to show you. That's when it ends. What do we have below?
It is a hedge. That's right. We took a two and a half hour bus tour of Palm Springs, about sixty percent of which was spent trying to peer through hedges of very private and very expensive mid-century modern properties. Kind of an annoying tease.

#psmw palm springs modernism week 2013 garden tour!

Yes, I had to do it. Take a landscaping tour in the desert. We kind of deserved this, but I really wanted to see what the modernists were doing with their lawns.
The answer is, of course, using lots of rocks, succulents and sand. But we still loved it.

I have many posts stored up now regarding last week's trip to Palm Springs for their 11-day mad celebration of all things modern.

Oh lucky us. Palm Springs Modernism Week 2013 running Feb. 14-24 out in the desert included one of Liberace's Palm Springs homes on the tour.
Liberace owned the property from 1968 to 1974. The current owners undertook an extensive remodel project but retained some Liberace-like touches. Shall we take a look?

My mom and I have been having an OUTSTANDING time at Palm Springs Modernism Week 2013. The docents are wonderful and the coordinators of the event have done a fantastic job. One of the highlights of our trip was this astonishing 26 foot tall statue of Marilyn Monroe.
Just kidding!!! Although Marilyn is truly captivating and definitely mid-century, we were significantly more impressed with Frey House II.

Palm Springs Modernism Week, Feb.14-24, 2013, has been loaded to the gills with (guess what) mid-century modern homes. Most have been true vintage and represent the iconic architects of Palm Springs. But not all.
We saw one home that was neither vintage nor iconic, but, at the same time, represents the mid-century modern ideals in perhaps the purest form of any of the homes we toured.

I am blogging to you live from Palm Springs Modernism Week, Feb.14-24, 2013, a marvelous and fabulous celebration of all things mid-century modern in Palm Springs, California. My mom and I arrived here on Sunday, February 18. It has been non-stop mid-century. Dawn to dusk.
I am loving all the mid-century modern houses and will share them shortly, but I had to post these humongous glass beads for the garden.

mid-century modern kitchen tour and why i want to remodel
Posted in:
kitchen remodel
This tour certainly won't take long. Our kitchen is thirteen feet long, and the aisle down the middle is a few inches shy of four feet wide. The total width including the counters (not including the breakfast bar) is an impressive 7 1/2 feet. You can see 100% of the kitchen, every drawer, cabinet and appliance from one photo.

Impressive, huh?

thrift store shopping
I got a unique birthday present this year from a good friend of mine which inspired even more mad cleaning.
I was intrigued when I pulled it out of the gift bag. Who wraps packages anymore? The tag read, "Terramundi Money Pot." I certainly liked the color.

After cleaning up the blog last Sunday, I wondered how I was going to top it. I walked into the office to work on my posts and was greeted by this:
No lie. What a freaking mess.
Crazy messy desktop with papers, and bills and junk piled everywhere. |
